Biography

Dr. Simon J.D. Schillebeeckx is Assistant Professor of Strategy & Innovation at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business of Singapore Management University (SMU) and Visiting Assistant Professor at Aalto University in Finland. Prior to joining SMU in early 2015, Simon obtained a PhD in Management from Imperial College London, worked in sustainable innovation consulting, and obtained degrees in Corporate Social Responsibility and Commercial Engineering.
Simon’s research focuses on innovation in sectors as diverse as finance, semiconductors, and agriculture. He currently studies blockchain technology’s impact on the financial sector, and international trade, and its possibilities for addressing environmental challenges. As an academic, he explores how disruptive shocks to the status quo can undermine value propositions and how organizations can become more resilient in the face of adversity. He is also an advisor to blockchain companies like CarbonGrid and Dimuto and a co-founder of the Global Mangrove Trust, a non-profit that seeks to use blockchain technology to support reforestation around the Bay of Bengal.
